France contains the march, not the governing crisis
Facts
Tens of thousands marched across France over living costs and public services; most demonstrations were peaceful, but clashes erupted in Paris, Marseille and other cities.
InterpretationThe government retains coercive capacity, yet policing cannot substitute for fiscal choices or credible reform. The peaceful majority is evidence against treating the whole movement as criminal; tolerating masked violence, however, would reward the actors best able to impose disorder and further polarise the presidential contest.
