Brussels proposes a border force with operational teeth
Facts
The European Commission proposed expanding Frontex to a 30,000-person corps by 2041, with a 24-hour rapid-response capacity and an €11.8 billion budget for 2028–2034.
InterpretationThe Commission is trying to convert migration control from national coordination into EU operational capacity. Money and deployment speed are leverage; member-state consent, recruitment and rights oversight are constraints. Conservatives should welcome enforcement capacity while insisting that a larger agency is accountable for failures as well as abuses.
