India’s outsourcers show AI can expand work before it destroys it

Facts

Twenty-four listed Indian IT companies added 31,000 jobs since April, while TCS reported a 20% quarter-on-quarter increase in AI revenue.

InterpretationThe evidence cuts against a simple mass-layoff narrative: firms can use AI to sell more services while changing the skill mix. Their leverage is an enormous trained workforce; constraints are pricing pressure, training costs and client demand for measurable productivity. Europe should note the competitive threat, not assume automation will erase it.
